Mumbai, Oct 29: With increasing awareness against noise pollution during Diwali, the city of Mumbai celebrated it in the quietest way possible. As per an NGO report, the Sunday celebrations generated a decibel level of 112.3 lower than that of 117.8 dB generated in 2017.

"This Diwali has been the quietest in 15 years since Awaaz Foundation began recording dB levels in the city. Till 2010, 100 per cent firecrackers exceeded the maximum permissible dB levels. In some case, they were as high as 145 dB," Sumaira Abdulali of Awaaz Foundation said.

Abdulali stated that Marine Drive and some areas in south Mumbai were the noisiest locations. Reportedly, the intensity of the firecrackers weakened by night.

Mumbaikars mostly used crackers which emitted light more than sound.
