Mangaluru, Oct 29: Sinu Vijayan, executive chef, The Gateway Hotel, along with other dignitaries inaugurated 'Master Chef’ a culinary contest here at food court of Expert College campus at Valachil on Tuesday, October 29, an event which was presented by Expert College and Spices N Chefs.
Addressing the gathering, Sinu Vijayan said, "It has been a privilege to take part in this contest here. This college is giving you the platform to be a chef and show your cooking skills. Students need to take up challenge to be chef at five star hotels.”
Komal Prabhu, executive chef, CKK kitchen of Maharaja Family Restaurant, said, "I am really amazed to see the campus. Cooking is very important in everyone’s life. Food is needed for growth and learn cooking yourself. Food and discipline makes you grow.”
Mariam Mohiudeen of Baker’s Treat said, "I am looking forward to this cooking contest. Students from different backgrounds are taking part in this event. I wish the very best for the students.”
Prof Narendra L Nayak, chairman, Expert group of institutions, said, "Cooking is a soft skill, which you need to learn. If you do the same thing in different ways, it is a key for success and Expert College has been practicing it for long.”
As many as 480 students took part in the preliminary round. Thirty students were selected for the final round. The final round consisted 10 groups with four members each group. There were three students and a parent in each group.
In the final round, students had to prepare a soup, salad, main course and dessert.
Dr Usha Prabha Nayak, vice chairperson, Expert group of institutions, and Ankush N Nayak, director, Information Technology, Expert Group of Institutions, were also present.
Roshni, HR executive, compered the programme, and welcomed the gathering. Preetham, F&B executive, Spices N Chefs, rendered the vote of thanks.
