Panaji, Oct 26: "The government plans to bring a legislation to promote medical tourism in Goa,” said Goa chief minister, Pramod Sawant. He was speaking on the sidelines of a panel discussion on the subject at the Goa International Tourism Mart on Friday October 25. “Though several tourists come to Goa for medical treatment, they get cheated,” he said.

Panelists, practitioners of Ayurvedic medicine in particular had said that illegal practitioners are bringing a bad name for the state. Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital said that no measures have been taken on ground level despite talk on promoting medical tourism.

Secretary of tourism, J Ashok Kumar said that the connectivity will improve after Mopa airport starts functioning in 2021. He urged medical practitioners to obtain the national accreditation board registration for hospitals and healthcare.
