Beltangady, Aug 7: Dinesh (25), son of the late Ravi Poojary from Kadaili House in Kudyadi village near Naravi, Beltangady taluk, died on Wednesday Auguat 5 under suspicious circumstances.
Dinesh, who worked as a kitchen helper in a bar located near Kottara chowki inMangalore, took leave on July 29, saying that his grandfather was sick. However, he was found lying by the side of a canal near house, badly beaten and bruised, after four days, on August 3. He was admitted to Beltangady Hospital for treatment, from where he was shifted to Naravi primary health centre in Karkala taluk. As he complained of acute body pain, he was being shifted to Karkala hospital, when he died on reaching Bajagoly village.
While being treated, he is said to have confessed to his family members that the rickshaw drivers at Kottara Chowki had beaten him up without any plausible reason. When questioned about the four-day delay in reaching his native place, he changed his version and claimed, he had been asked by an unidentified woman to come to Sakleshpur. After reaching Sakleshpur, he claimed, he was beaten up by a gang of men. Although he gave the name of the woman as Rashmi and provided her mobile number, the family members say calls made to the number go unanswered.
A case has been registered in Karkala police station in this regard.
