Mangaluru, Oct 24: Irene Rebello has been selected for 15th Carvalho Ghorannem-Mandd Sobhann Kalakar Puraskar. The award will be presented by director of Sandesh Foundation, Fr Francis Assisi in a programme in Kalangann on Sunday, November 3 at 6 pm.
Irene has conducted workshops in villages about wedding songs Vovio Ani Vers, provided training in the Janapada songs. She has formed her own group to sing during Roce programmes of Catholics. She had conducted research and written ‘Bhailyan Ailo Vhor’ and ‘Aprosachi Vatli’, two books on the subjects. She is active in several such local cultural groups.
The award consists of Rs 25,000 cash, memento, shawl, fruits, flowers and a certificate. The award programme will be followed by ‘Bindas 2.0’ musical programme by Alwyn-Arun Danthi brothers in 215th monthly stage programme.
Felicitation to artistes
The award was instituted by Goa based language scholar Dr Pratap Naik in 2005 on behalf of his ‘Carvalho family’ to honour Karnataka based artistes of music, drama, dances and Janapada art forms. The awards are so far presented to Arun Raj Rodrigues (drama), Joel Pereira (music), Harry D’ Souza (brass band), Fr Charles Vas (hymns music), Anuradha Dhareshwar (music), Santa Bhadragiri Achutha Das (Harikathe), James Lopez Honnavar (brass band), Norbert Gonsalves (music), Francis Fernandes Cascia (drama), Roshan D’ Souza (music), Christopher D’ Souza (drama), Avil D’Cruz (dance), M Gopal Gowda (Janapada) and Dolla Mangaluru (drama)
