Udupi, Oct 23: The police were on patrol duty on Monday October 21 morning near Kukkikatte Railway Bridge when a person tried to escape from being questioned. The police, who chased the person who was facing the allegation of domestic theft, succeeded in nabbing him from near Diana Theatre.
The arrested theft-accused happens to be Rajesh Devadiga, a car driver from Padubidri Yellur. It is said that he had stolen ornaments from a house near Dendurkatte, Manippura nearl Padubidri recently, and thereafter been hoodwinking the police.
On Monday morning, sub-inspector of the town station here, Ananthapadmanabha, was on patrol duty near Kukkikatte Railway Bridge when a Maruti 800 car coming from the direction of Alevoor towards Beedinagudde approached the bridge. The police signalled the car to stop but Rajesh continued to drive away his car.
The police immediately chased the car and stopped Rajesh near Diana Theatre. They recovered gold ornaments weighing 13.560 grams, two cell phones, a laptop and other things totally worth Rs 3.10 lac.
During his questioning, Rajesh confessed to have committed theft. A case in this regard was registered in the town police station here. Further probe is on.
