Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi
Udupi, Oct 21: Speculations and rumour-filled fake news continue to spread across social media relating to the suicide case of Fr Mahesh D'Souza.
Fr Mahesh was the assistant parish priest and principal of Don Bosco School in Shirva. He was found hanging at his cabin of the school on October 11.
The latest fake news spread is about a gram panchayat president to have been arrested along with his son. This fake news has spread like wildfire across social media, especially in WhatsApp.
Daijiworld Udupi and Mangaluru offices were flooded with calls to confirm the news. Unfortunately, even highly educated people forwarded the news without even verifying the source. Some mischief mongers have just typed words in news format and shared the same on social media. But any layperson can say that it is fake news if one sees the logic used in the news.
The police have denied any arrest in Fr Mahesh D’Souza murder case, and declined to give any further details.
Now the gram panchayat president, who has been accused in fake news circulated, has reportedly approached the Udupi cyber police to take action for sharing defamation content against him on social media.
It can be recalled that a fake news on three young men accusing them as murderers of Fr Mahesh was circulated last week. Daijiworld had reported this social media rumour as fake news.
Meanwhile, many theories are being discussed by people on social media in India and abroad regarding the case, which are highly speculative in nature. But the police officials are not revealing any details except the statement ‘Investigation is on, official post-mortem report is awaited'.
