Dubai, Oct 20: UAE government has made a bachelor's degree in nursing is the minimum educational qualification for registered nurses. Over 200 Indian nurses have already lost their jobs and many others are demoted. 

Earlier, diploma certificates were enough to secure a job of nurse in the UAE. However, with the new minimum educational requirement, it seems the diploma holders will have to vacate the positions. 

For some of the nurses, who have the diploma certificates, they are asked to complete the Post Basic B Sc nursing programme from universities in the UAE accredited by the Ministry of Education (MoE) latest by 2020. Otherwise, they also risk losing their jobs. 

There is another issue that is faced by the nurses who have enrolled for the university programmes. The universities have denied issuing any equivalent certificate in lieu of their diploma certificate, which they have already earned. 

According to the nurses, who are on the verge of losing their jobs, the Ministry of Education issues a certificate that is equivalent to the diploma certificates issued by the state of Kerala. The nursing council of the Kerala is the only Indian nursing body that is recognized by the ministry of Dubai. 

The majority of the nurses serving in the gulf countries are from the state of Kerala. 

The affected nurses are saying that they are left in a do or die situation as they are not able to continue their studies and apply for a new job.

    Nowadays to get a job is only difficult and everywhere firing is going on and over Population. Don't know what future holds for the next generation. And regarding Dubai: New rule by health ministry - Indian nurses likely to lose jobs, It is their country and they can bring which ever rule they want and benefit for the country not like India where people would go on strike and damaged property also

    No problem to adhere with Ministry Rule but then why they accept mallu certificate but not others??? So, it's not Ministry.....some one from Mallu Ministry proposed this law we believe!!!

    There's a simple logic to this. Probably the syllabus and the subsequent degree/diploma offered by Kerala universities are similar to what the UAE/Dubai offers. It's not new. Universities like VTU were once considered as close to what the UK (not anymore as they need extra certification)

    Aaaand, you think someone from the "mallu ministry" will be able to influence the Emirs? If so, you're mistaken. If not Indians, there are many other communities waiting to grab opportunities. Nurses from Kerala are known worldwide for their ethics, discipline and efficient working towards patient care. Keep your sanghi ideology away for now.

    Here they are telling health ministry ... if its UAE health ministry means they will not even accept certificate from even kerala government. Their rule is for all same I.e bsc certificate, but if it's only for Dubai ministry.... its local Dubai government only for Dubai which Dubai government is having 4 hospital and some clinics.

    They are in nursing profession and they do not need proficiency in English. Moreover, in the Gulf
    countries they are dealing mostly with Arab patience and these nurses have adapted local language
    and take care of the patience and understand their needs too.

    Now in UAE even locals and other Arab nationals are joining as medical professionals. Before no one was taking nursing jobs so our kerala people took this field as opportunity. Indians are telling we are Hindus and way of life is desi life and desi things. Why in India most of people use Chinese goods. Our minister wants treatment in foreign countries. They want aeroplanes from European countries.
    Why can't they think about producing here in India. Why can't they employ Indian people?

    I think they should have been given sufficient time to upgrade their qualifications/certifications, as they are already have work experience. The new comer with certificate still need practical experience as the qualifications itself not sufficient to serve better.

    Only Malu kerala certificates are valid.
    But most kerala nurses have done their nursing studies in mlore .
    Next...the way & dedications Indian nurses take care of patients in hospital.nobody does.
    Since so many years service now they want to do study more for what,?,when they have so many years of experience. Why do the nurses need again masters. OK fine make rule to.the new fresh nurses ..This is all money makingplsn for universities ..

    Not surprised, many of the nursing colleges in the city are substandard and are churning out poorly trained nurses . Many of them don’t even have hospitals and use the services of other hospitals by paying a fee . High time the government steps in and sets up a strong nursing regulatory board to shut down these nurse factories !!!

    It is hard to nurses who are working already for many years have to go through one more course .Usually elsewhere who are there for many years cannt be thrown out ,but can be asked to do a further course without loosing job,but continueing their salary.when they dont do ,their salary will not be increased.This is mostly where union is there ,it supports.I dont know how it is in UAE.(Dubai)I pity some who have poured a lot of money to agents to secure a job and now at the verge of loosing.As I said before when anyone wants to come here opportunitys are there .with or without .
