Mangaluru, Oct 20: A Golden Jubilee is always an occasion of thanksgiving and celebration. On October 19, parish priest of the Holy Cross Church, Cordel, Kulshekar, Fr Victor Machado, celebrated his 50 years of priesthood and sincere service to the church and society.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangaluru diocese, Dr Jerald Isaac Lobo, bishop of Udupi, Dr Henry D’Souza, bishop of Bellary, Dr Francis Serrano, bishop of Shivamogga, archbishop emeritus Dr Bernard Moras, Bengaluru diocese were present. Vice president Loy Noronha welcomed the dignitaries and the gathering.
In memory of this great event, the Cordel parishioners gave Rs one lac each cheques to the retired priests' medical fund and also to the welfare of the seminarians fund of Jeppu Seminary. Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and Fr Ronald Serrao, Rector of Jeppu seminary received these cheques.
‘Jaithachi Paula’ magazine was released by Dr Francis Serrao and depicted the personality of Fr Victor Machado as a humane priest. Fr Victor Machado’s deep relationship with God makes him to talk the walk as his leadership is very strong and powerful, he said.
The life of Fr Victor Machado was sung in the CD ‘Boro Gowli’ by Fr Clement Mascarenhas and Fr Valerian Mendonca and was released by the twin sister of Fr Victor Machado and Walter D’Souza, the owner of Fernandes Brothers. They appreciated his personality as a peacemaker.
Nearly 200 priests, 500 religious sisters and 4,000 people witnessed this programme.
