Puttur, Oct 20: Nelyadi outpost police confiscated an Eicher truck that was illegally transporting cattle from Hassan to a slaughterhouse in Mangaluru on the morning of Saturday, October 19 and arrested one person.
Nawaz (32), son of Moyiddi, a resident of Shantigudde in Mangaluru, who was driving the truck, is the arrested person. Hasainar, Nizar Jokatte, Hanif Jokatte and Mustaq Adyar Kannur, who were accompanying the cattle in the truck, escaped during the operation.
17 cattle, three calves and two buffaloes were rescued by the police personnel of Nelyadi outpost. The cattle were stuffed in the truck in an inhumane manner, due to which one cattle died in the vehicle itself.
The Eicher truck did not stop at the Gundya check post at around 6 am on Saturday, though the police asked them to stop and went in high speed towards Mangaluru. The check post personnel of Gundya, immediately brought the matter to the notice of SI Sitarama Gowda of Nelyadi outpost. Immediately SI Sitarama and constable Pratap tried to stop the vehicle at Nelyadi. However, the Eicher truck did not stop there also and proceeded further. The police chased the truck and waylaid it at Kolpe of Konalu village.
The cattle were brought to the Nelyadi outpost and are being fed grass and water.
Two weeks ago, Nelyadi outpost police had rescued 20 cattle from an Eicher truck near the Bethany educational institution.
