Udupi, Oct 18: Joyce Philomena D’Souza, daughter of Flavia D’Souza, a resident of Kemmannu Udupi has made her institution Milagres College Kallianpur, family, friends, community and village proud by bagging the gold medal in the Dasara CM Cup 2019 in heavyweight boxing category, which was held at Mysuru.
Joyce started practicing boxing just two months ago but she has already secured a gold medal in the Dasara CM Cup in Mysuru as well as a gold medal in the All India Inter State Boxing Championship in the heavyweight boxing category representing Karnataka which was held in Chennai, Tamil Nadu.
She had dedicated herself completely to the sport of boxing and as a result she was able to bag such victories. In addition, Joyce is practicing karate from the past five years and has secured gold, silver and bronze medals in state as well as in national level karate championships. She is trained by Shivaprasad Acharya of Subodhini Higher Primary School, Alevoor, Udupi. She is an expert in karate and presently she also teaches Karate to the students in her free time.
When asked about the reason for choosing karate and boxing, Joyce said that she chose them so that through her good performances and achievements she could secure a government job and support her family.
Joyce is presently pursuing Bachelor of Arts in Milagres College, Kallianpur. Joyce aspires to be an IPS officer in the future and serve the people of the society. “Opportunity will not come in search of us. We need to knock the doors of opportunity and make the most of it,” she says.
Joyce’s hard work has given her fruit of her hard work in the form of prizes, awards and more importantly recognition in the society.
