London, Oct 18: South Kanara Association (SKA) London, under the leadership of Sunil D'Cunha, celebrated its Ruby Anniversary with an enthralling and super hit event titled 'Konkani Sambhram' on Sunday, October 13 in London.
It was a grand celebration enjoyed by everyone present at the venue and above all, ‘Band Charitra’’, one of the finest rock bands of recent times, who, by presenting a brilliant performance created a permanent image in the hearts and minds of the Mangalureans in London.
As announced earlier, the programme of the mega ruby anniversary celebrations commenced at 11 am with a thanksgiving Holy Mass in Konkani offered by Dr Peter Paul Saldanha, bishop of Mangaluru diocese. The Holy Mass was a special event in the history of SKA, London.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha graced the programme as the chief guest and Walter Nandalike, founder of Daijiworld Media, Joseph Mathias, chairman of Merit Freight Systems, Eric Ozario and Joyce Ozario were also present on the Dias.
Bishop of Mangaluru was the centre of attraction for the audience as every member present wanted to meet and greet him. He politely accepted the request of the audience of clicking picture with him. "I am delighted to be here in England among the faithful. I thank SKA for the opportunity. It is not easy to have 40-year long journey. SKA has kept the Konkani language and tradition alive in this country. We all must thank Almighty for this great opportunity," said the Bishop.
Walter Nandalike, in his address, congratulated SKA for 40 years and also uniting the community members through this celebration. He pointed out that, Bishop Saldanha is not just religious and spiritual leader for the faithful of members who reside in the Mangaluru diocese, but for the members of Mangaluru diocese who live across the world. “Today he is here to give the message of love and unity here. Thank you SKA for making this possible." he added.
Eric Ozario congratulated SKA on the occasion of their 40th anniversary.
Dr Peter Paul Saldanha and Eric Ozario were felicitated during the event for their tremendous contribution towards the Konkani catholic community.
Roland Saldanha, Walter D'Souza and Ron Rodrigues, former presidents of SKA were felicitated by the bishop for their service rendered to the Konkani Catholic community of London.
Thunderous performance by Band Charitra
After the stage programme, it was the time for an amazing cultural extravaganza and series of musical masterpieces. The Mangalurean rock band, Band Charitra, truly created a marvelous magic on the stage for the music lovers of London. From the very first moment of their entry into the stage, they rocked the stage mesmerizing the crowd with their unique and magical style. The songs presented by the team were awesome and entertained everyone present in the hall. Loy Valentine Saldanha, Patson Pereira, Ian Sachin Saldanha, Sharwin Maben and Rikith Leonard Soans played pivotal roles in playing and presenting music with their unique style. Every moment of their presence on the stage was electrifying and entertaining.
Melwyn Antony D’Souza is regarded as the singer par excellence and he lived up to his reputation. His performance and style were really amazing and as soon as he entered the stage, he became the star of the evening. His songs and mimicry also received tremendous response by the audience. The songs by Akshada Talaulikar, ‘The best female singer’ title winner from the prestigious global Konkani Music award, were awesome and made the whole audience to applaud for her singing.
Velita Lobo, winner of MTG, a natural singer with a beautiful voice started the evening with a beautiful number 'Raya'. Joseph Mathias enthralled the audience with ‘Durum Durum’ and ‘Life begins @ 60’, which received thunderous applauds from the audience.
Eric Ozario and Joyce Ozario entertained the audience with songs like Voda Ponda, Roslin Muja Mogache and Suryachi Kirna and Shradaricho Pavs, which received an overwhelming response from the audience.
Lanisha and Delisha Vas, Ancita D'Souza, Shainy Jovita D'Souza winner of SKA voice of London were three local artistes, who also performed during the event.
Sheldon Crasta and Joseph Sequeira compered the event gracefully and kept the audience engaged throughout the event.
