Mangaluru, Oct 18: Former chief minister Siddaramaiah said, "Chief minister Yediyurappa is the unwanted child for Prime Minister Modi and national BJP president Amit Shah.
He was addressing the party representatives at the St Sebestian Church hall at Bendorewell in the city on Friday, October 18.
Siddaramaiah said, "Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah did not want Yediyurappa to be chief minister of the state, but helplessly they have made him the chief minister.
“During the last MCC elections, people of Mangaluru had blessed the Congress party and at the same time Congress was in the power. But in the assembly and Lok Sabha elections people did not bless Congress despite doing good development works. They voted for BJP. Congress would have won both elections if the voters had seen our development works.
“Congress has failed in conveying the truth to the public about the development works, while BJP, RSS and Bajrang Dal conveyed misinformation to the public. What is BJP's contribution? It is a big zero. Even Prime Minister Narendra Modi did not speak about his achievements in the last tenure because he has done nothing during his last tenure.
“Mangaluru is laboratory of communal for BJP and RSS. They take sensitive issues and divert the minds of the people. BJP will never speak about social problems, economic problems, problems faced by youths and farmers. In global hunger index we stand in the 102nd position and no steps are taken to eradicate hunger. Karnataka is the only state to give seven kg of rice for free for the needy and BJP are trying to stop this provision.
"We are facing economic crisis due to the demonetization and irrational GST. There is no solution found to tackle unemployment, economy and problems faced by farmers. Yediyurappa does not know how to run the government. Prime Minister Modi has promised the youth of providing employment and credit Rs 15 lac to bank accounts, but it has not been fulfilled.
“Nalin Kumar Kateel, the state BJP president, does not have any knowledge about economy of the state so does Yediyurappa. Nalin Kumar Kateel does not know the number of districts in the state as he is one of the ignorant MPs who failed to speak about Pumpwell flyover in the parliament. Nalin Kumar Kateel's switch is in the hands of B L Santhosh. If he switches on then Nalin Kumar Kateel will dance. Yedyurappa's government will be there till December, then definitely once again election will be held.
“Veer Savarkar is one of the conspirators in Gandhi's assassination. Now BJP are recommending his name for Bharat Ratna. Where we are heading? RSS and Hindu Mahasabha did not contribute for the independence struggle but they supported British. Do we need such people in Mangaluru? If BJP comes to power in MCC then we will go 10 years backward in development.
“People are now remembering our development works. BJP are anti-poor, anti-minority, anti-women and anti-youth as they only speak about Hindutva and Hindu-Muslim issues and disrespect the constitution. Congress treats every religion equally and respects the Constitution.
“All the Congress representatives have huge responsibility ahead of MCC elections and should work together in conveying the truth about the development works to the public,” he said.
MLA U T Khader, MLC Ivan D’Souza, District Congress president Harish Kumar, District Youth Congress president Mithun Rai, former Minister Ramanath Rai, former MLAs J R Lobo, Mohiudeen Bava, Abhayachandra Jain, former mayor Kavitha Sanil and others were present.
