Vatican dismisses Kerala nun’s appeal, says she failed to give satisfactory explanation

Daijiworld Media Network – Kochi (SR)

Kochi, Oct 18: The Vatican has dismissed an appeal filed by a Kerala nun, Sr Lucy Kalappura. In her appeal she challenged the Franciscan Clarist Congregation's decision to expel her for her lifestyle in violation of FCC laws. The congregation said Sr Lucy failed to give a satisfactory explanation for her lifestyle in violation of FCC laws.

The congregation in August this year had expelled Sr Lucy Kalappura for publishing poems, purchasing a car and protesting against a rape accused former bishop of Jalandhar diocese.

As per PTI source, the congregation, under the Roman Catholic Church, had said that the nun was issued "proper canonical warnings."

"Since she is not showing the needed remorse, the Vatican has dismissed her appeal," a Church source said as quoted by PTI.

The congregation would give her one more opportunity to file an appeal, if that was also rejected, she would have to leave the convent, said the Church source to PTI.

The congregation for the Oriental Churches in the Vatican through the Nuntiature in New Delhi has approved the 'unanimous decision' to dismiss the nun at the congregations General Council on May 11 this year.

The congregation had sent a notice to Sr Lucy in January this year, in which it mentioned that she made ‘grave violations’ as she possessed a driving licence, bought a car, took loan for it and published a book and spent money without the permission and knowledge of her superiors.

Dismissing some 14 charges levelled against her, Sr Lucy Kalappura said many of the allegations were deliberate to paint her in bad light.

The FCC also alleged that Sr Lucy, while participating in the protest by 'Save Our Sisters Action Council' on September 20 2018 at Kochi for the arrest of Bishop Franco Mulakkal, violated its dress code in public without any permission.

whoever or whatever one says,I find here Vatican has right.simply she has acted against the rules of community.Let us see it so,when one is living in a group or community, one has to abide to rules.otherwise this community doesnt function.every player from a team does whaat he wants, play will not be successful .well she protested ok.then follows the licence, without superiors order, buys a car without permission, is not a fine way as a nun to live in community.she can go out and practice as she wants.why should she make a division in community life?Where is the obeying superior?Captain gives order,to play forwards and she plays backwards.does one win here ?It beginns to a seperation.so here also.others too beginn to play wrong.Either together or out.is the device. Here plays everyone as one want !so sister out with you.not fit for a congregation.

Owning a car, having driving licence, writing and publishing a book is an offence for the so called most liberal religion....wonder if all commentors here agree to it.... Sister Lucy we are sorry as our justice system was not sufficient to provide proper relief.

The Catholic Church is playing with fire and is driving people away from the church! Being a Catholic, I am ashamed, and for sure even Christ would be ashamed of the way the church functions!!!

No one can take rule in hand. We have to abide by the rules stipulated in any discipline of life.
Vatican is fully right in their reply to the query.

On the contrary, there is plenty of space available for people - at least since the time of Martin Luther (1483-1546).

If one can't agree to abide by the rules of a congregation, they can start their own congregation - with their own rules (or WITHOUT any rules!)

Don't know how long the congregation can survive if it has no rules.

Or, leave the catholic church altogether, and start a different sect. No one questions!

So there is plenty of freedom in today's world.

But this woman wants free food and free shelter that the congregation provides to its members.

Well she can start her own congregation now !!
More liberty, more expression of interests and talents, open social work and own personal rules...
Obeying God and obeying superiors is two separate virtues. some may not like the later one. so they falter.

A congregation is an association. Like any association, there are rules that every member needs to follow.

Once cannot be a member of an association while completely disregarding the rules of that association.

So, this woman has repeatedly broken the rules of the Franciscan Clarist Congregation (FCC)...

...and still thought Vatican was going to listen to her.

She should have been kicked out of the Congregation when she broke the first rule.

An adult wilfully breaking a rule/law deserves no sympathy.

In all your ranting, you seem to be missing the point of her protest . A crime was committed and she is voicing her protest . No harm in doing so , any organisation cannot su press freedom of speech . She has a right to protest and should not be crucified for that . Let the courts decide what is right or wrong .
