Shivamogga, Oct 17: Rumours have been floating thick and thin about some terror suspects having been arrested from Thirthahalli in the district. However, the district police have tried to ward off the concern of the people by confirming that no such arrests have been made.
The rumours claimed that the police from the city undertook thorough search in Surani village in Thirthahalli taluk on Tuesday. It is learnt that the police visited a farmhouse and conducted scrutiny for some time. The rumours said that barricades were set up in the area and vehicles passing by the area were checked. On the basis of this information, it was rumoured that suspected terrorists were taken into custody.
There is ban on use of satellite phones by individuals in India. But satellite phone signals were detected from Surani area in Thirthahalli a few days back. The police were alerted by the intelligence wing about this development. Therefore surprise check was conducted, police sources stated.
In the past, suspected terrorists had been taken into custody from the district. Based on this, and taking into account checks undertaken by the police at Surani, the said rumours were floated, it is believed.
