Udupi: Twist to Fr Mahesh suicide case as significant details emerge

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi

Udupi, Oct 16: Exactly 24-hours after the final rites of Fr Mahesh D’Souza, assistant parish priest of Shirva church and principal of Don Bosco School, the details about the possible reason for suicide have started emerging after police speeded up the investigations into high-profile death case.

Earlier there were rumours and reports that, Fr Mahesh D’Souza was upset about his possible transfer from Don Bosco School to Kanajar. But authorities in Udupi diocese have strictly refuted the charges and clarified that there were no such written or oral orders for Fr Mahesh, and especially in the middle of the academic year, no such practices are followed for transfer.

The new details Daijiworld gathered from highly reliable sources add a new twist to the episode. A powerful political leader from the same area and from same community is alleged to be the prime suspect in Fr Mahesh D’Souza suicide case, though no death note was found. The primary post-mortem report also revealed that the reason for the death is suicide. However official report from authority is still awaited.

According to Daijiworld sources, two persons have already recorded their statements with local police station about the incidents that took place just before the Fr Mahesh's suicide act, between 8 and 9 pm on October 11, 2019.

Around four people visited church premises. One among them is the local political leader. He came with his minor son and two others who together came to threaten Fr Mahesh D’Souza. But they did not find Fr Mahesh there. One of them, allegedly in drunken state, warned the witness there to bring Fr Mahesh immediately and said or else he will be 'eliminated'.

"I have several cases against me. I also have influence in police station. My bail is ready, I will finish Mahesh. I will ring the church bells and expose him,” were the words reportedly uttered by the political leader who threatened Fr Mahesh in his absence. It is learnt that, Fr Mahesh was in school chamber at that time. But it is not sure if he had already committed suicide by then or he did so later after learning about the threat from these people.

The CCTV footages of these people, who visited the church premises as explained above, are available and going to be key evidence for the arrest of the persons.

Since the investigation is on, Daijiworld cannot reveal the names of accused persons or witnesses. At the same time, Daijiworld is trying to find the exact reason behind the 'Threat' or 'Blackmail'.

Daijiworld has learnt that superintendent of police is personally monitoring the case, and has assured strict action against culprits very soon.

Speaking to Daijiworld, an Udupi diocese priest, who requested anonymity, said, "Fr Mahesh is not the person who would commit suicide for a small reason of 'Transfer'. He was very strong. We the priests are supposed to obey the orders and follow the rule. But I feel there are some sensitive issues behind the suicide."

At the same time, Udupi diocese has appealed to people to stop spreading the rumours and stop circulating 'fake' contents.

"We have full faith in our police force and judiciary. Let us all wait for the truth to emerge." said another priest from Udupi diocese.

On Tuesday, October 15, over 10,000 people paid final respect to deceased priest as he was widely acclaimed teacher and priest in Udupi diocese. He reportedly had excellent relationship with his seniors and heads of Udupi diocese clergies.

God rest his soul. Known him closely and felt he was a fine servant of the community and I must admit he was cut above the rest . Its a real shame to lose him so young. We can have a lot of Ifs and buts candy and nuts; however I hope we all can keep up the pursuit to find the real truth and bring peace to all , especially to the grieving family. We are a peace loving , giving community but that should not be assumed as weakness. Its about time to bring justice and peace.

Coz we have short term menory. No one will come to know the reasons behind. Feeling for his family. Only they lost their son n that pain will never go away.

What point of hanging those who killed him. He was a forgiving priest. As we are Christians we have to forgive. Only the people who involved in his death pray that they confess it. That is the main truth we want to know. We forgive the person only pray confess it. Also pray that the investigation team tell us the right and true report . May his soul rest in peace.

With due respect to the soul of the deceased priest, this might be death under mysterious circumstances.

For suicide, phobia can be one of the reason. This might be physical, mental or spiritual. Other angle might be character assassination by the vested interest, within or from the close circle, whom he might have trusted.

The truth will come out, from the investigating department, if the investigating authorities are impartial and the investigating authorities should be given free hand, without any political pressure.

When a tragedy happens to any human being, that person or family or the publc will curse the wrongdoer & pray to God at first instance before going to any investigative agency to punish the culprits. God certainly knows who has done right & wrong, will suitably punish the wrongdoer if not today but in different ways. So nobody should have a illusion in mind that nothing will happen if they have power, influence etc.... etc...
God is great, God never fails you if you trust faithfully.

I totally disagree with most of the comments here that God will punish the culprits. Fr. Mahesh, as a person should get justice. Police should act fast and nab the culprits. If God would punish the culprit, he could have as well prevented Fr. Mahesh from committing suicide!!

I agree with you. Police should waste no time in nabbing the culprits and not involve God for man made actions. God had bestowed man with a gift called wisdom which animals do not possess. While animals act on instinct, man has the liberty to use his wisdom according to his will and pleasure. Therefore, it’s inappropriate to involve or blame God for acts committed by man according to his own way and desire. There’s no logic in saying the wrongdoer acted according to the will of God or that God will see to it and punish him.

I thought Man can be an angel or demon. if one follows good one becomes an angel, follows evil becomes a demon untill repentance from his heart turn from his evil ways to become an angel again.

BTW Good, justice... comes from God. Evil, injustice... comes from Satan.

We, Catholics must get involved to a greater upward trend in cooperating in the affairs of the Church ⛪ & trouble makers must be thoroughly investigated if their allegations are true or false? Every Diocese should have able & experienced Priest to head the Deanery. Parishioners having Disputes in their families should first approach the Dean (Head Priest) & he should act as the Arbitrator. If the Disputes can't be resolved, then approach the Government Courts. I don't see any such arrangements either in Mangalore or Udupi Dioceses.

BOOK OF TRUTH – VOLUME TWO Excerpts

    7th January 2012 – 4th September 2012

24th February 2012: (21:45 hours) Never reject the Prophets of the Lord. While God allows the sufferings experienced by His Visionaries on Earth to ensure that souls are saved, He will not tolerate the abuse of His Anointed Prophets.

God, My Father, speaks to the world through His Prophets. It is His Word you reject, when you publicly slander His Prophets – for this is a sin in His Eyes. Never reject the Prophets of the Lord. Never hurt or harm His Prophets in any way. Remain silent at all times if in doubt and pray for them.

Attack the True Prophet and fire will pour forth upon you from the Heavens in punishment by the Hand of My Father.

We as individuals are no one to comment on a Priest, living or dead, or for that matter, no Living Soul.
My Mother & Aunt, always taught us that we should NEVER speak against the Religious~NUNS or PRIESTS as they leave their family in the Service of GOD.

We are not answerable to God for anyone else's SINS...but Our OWN.

So instead of forwarding Baseless Messages, we should PRAY for the Departed Soul

Only Our Lord JESUS CHRIST & Fr.Mahesh know the Fact.

May the Soul of Our Beloved Fr. Mahesh REST IN PEACE in Our Lord's Kingdom ⚘
