Udupi, Oct 16: Heavy rainfall in Udupi caused a landslide damaging Perdur – Harikandige PWD road. The incident that took place on Tuesday, October 15 near Harikandige in Hiriyadka has put the villagers in shock.

Though the landslide was unexpected, injuries or mishaps were not reported.

The road connects Harikandige village and Perdur. Just two years back, the PWD had developed this road. The drainage system installed underneath the was also damaged.

There are other roads to reach Ajekar. However, the road damage will affect bus movement. Now, the alternative way to reach Harikandige and Perdur is through Hiriyadka and Shirur.

The locals and police have taken measures and are stopping vehicles half way and diverting the movement to other routes.

However, the landslide has not gone well with the citizens, who blame ‘careless work’ by PWD contractors as the cause.

Why not for once government Analyze root cause of the problem? Why not take instances like this as case study, analyse the situation find the cause and set an example so that this does not occur once again.. let's not brush off saying this is natural calamity.. natural calamity can also be avoided, because landslide is not directly proportionate to disaster caused by nature, unlike earthquake..
