Mangaluru, Oct 14: Noticing that untreated effluents from a residential complex were being released into the open drain at Ullal, the Ullal municipality had served notice to the concerned thrice, asking it against doing so. Even after penalty was imposed on the complex, there was no positive response. Therefore, power supply to the building was severed from October 10 onward, a release from Ullal municipality stated.
Westline residential complex standing at Kallapu within Ullal municipal limits was following the practice of releasing the effluents into the open drain. A number of locals had complained to the municipality on this issue. The municipal officials had conducted spot inspection and served notice thrice. Still, the complex failed to bring necessary changes in its practice. Therefore, the district in-charge minister and administrative officer had ordered to take stern steps.
In view of these developments, Ullal municipality stated that power supply to the complex was cut off through Mescom from October 10 onward. In a release, municipal commissioner of Ullal municipal council said that strict action will be undertaken against the people, those who operate commercial complexes and residential complexes which do not properly process the effluents and do not respond to the notices served by the municipality.
