Bengaluru, Oct 12: The Karnataka government will distribute additional Rs 10,000 as compensation to farmers, who suffered crop loss due to floods. The announcement was made by chief minister B S Yediyurappa in Karnataka Legislative Assembly on October 11.
For per hectare of horticulture crop damaged the Karnataka government will provide Rs 23,500. For assured irrigated area Rs 28,000 per hectare. For rain fed area Rs 16,800 per hectare and Rs 28,000 for destruction of coffee plantations per hectare. The compensation announced by the Karnataka government is Rs 10,000 more than the amount prescribed under the NDRF norms.
The chief minister has also promised to provide suitable compensation for losses in sericulture and areca plantations after holding discussions with officials.
House damages are categorised as A, B and C. NDRF norms prescribe a compensation of Rs 95,000 for damages in category A and B. However, CM has announced to provide Rs 5 lac to each damaged house under category A and B.
For C category, the NDRF prescribed compensation is Rs 5,200. Here, the state government has decided to give Rs 50,000.
Compensation of Rs 25,000 is promised to shop owners who endured loss after their shops were flooded. Weavers whose looms are damaged due to floods will also be given Rs 25,000, the CM said.
