Mangaluru, Oct 12: The sixth additional district and sessions court here, which was hearing a case in which a youth accompanying a girl student on a visit to a mall in the city was assaulted by five persons, came to the conclusion that the charges against the accused were proved. The court handed down sentence to the five assault-accused, who were held guilty.
Chetan (23), resident of Jyotinagara, Kavoor here, Raskhit Ku,mr (21) from Sringeri Nellur, Ashwinraj (21) from Kandak, Sushanth Shetty (23) from Karkala Inna and Sharath Kumar (28), resident of car street here have been pronounced guilty by the court.
The court imposed fine of Rs 21,000 on each of the five persons named above. In case they fail to pay the fine, they will have to undergo a jail term of eight months each. The court judgement also prescribed that out of the fine amount so collected, Rs 50,000 has to be disbursed to the youth by way of compensation.
A youth from Udupi accompanied by a girl student from Maharashtra, who was studying in Manipal, had visited a mall at Pandeshwar in the city. The two were about to return after moving around the mall when a gang of youngsters accosted them and attacked the man. Later, a complaint was registered in Pandeshwar police station in the city relating to this incident.
Judge of the sixth additional district and sessions court, Sayeedunnisa, who conducted trial in the case, after finding that the charges levelled against the five accused were proved, announced the sentence. 11 witnesses and 17 documents were taken into account when arriving at the decision.
