Mangaluru, Oct 9: The nine-day Mangaluru Dasara or Navaratri celebrations culminated with the grand procession watched by thousands of devotees through the city on Tuesday, October 8.
The procession began from Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara Temple in the evening and ended on early morning of Wednesday, October 9. The priests and office bearers of the temple committee gave start to the procession with rituals and offerings.
Idols of Navadurga, Goddess Sharada Devi and Lord Ganapathi were carried through the main streets of the city in a procession with much fervour and enthusiasm by a massive crowd. A number of tableaus, large decorative umbrellas and music bands added colour to the procession. The traditional Chende sets, bhajans and Dollu Kunita flanked the procession. Chinese model tableaus were the special attraction of this year’s procession.
The procession culminated with the immersion of the idols at the Pushkarini pond inside the temple complex on Wednesday morning.
