Panaji, Sep 9: The 3.43km-long taxiway at Goa’s Dabolim airport will be ready for use by next month, said contractor Dilip Buildcon. With the completion of the construction, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) plans to increase the number of flights at the airport.
With the use of the new taxiway the aircraft will be able to avoid delays as it won’t have to backtrack on the runway.
“The new taxiway will provide easy landing and take-off and it will have a positive impact on Goa’s tourism sector. Presently, flights are also kept on hold for traffic to pass from a road that cuts through the airport area. As part of the works, a peripheral road has been developed and the local traffic will no longer affect flight movement,” Dilip Builcon vice-president (constructions) Atul Joshi said, as quoted by TOI.
Around 180 flights function at the airport on daily basis, and during the charter season, which began last week, it goes up to 190 a day.
