Karwar, Oct 8: An interesting case of Venkataramana Naik from Keni village near Ankola identifying his children who came back to him after a gap of 30 years after leaving him when they were young, has emerged.
On Sunday October 6, a man from Kalaghatgi, identified as Manjunath, came to Keni along with his two sisters, fell at the feet of his father, and sought his blessings. He and his sisters also expressed their willingness to take their aged father to Kalaghatgi in Dharwad district, where they now live.
After severe differences with her husband, Venkataramana Naik's wife had left him along with two sons and two daughters. After some days, one of the sons came back and was raised by the father. About 15 years back, another son too came back and joined the family. Venkataramana raised both of them, treating them as his sons. After a gap of 30 years, now another person has come and claimed himself to be the son of Venkataramana.
Manjunath from Kalghatgi came with sisters, Neelamma and Nagamma from Kalaghatgi to meet his father. Neelamma proved her identify by pinpointing the spots where she was playing when young, and also displayed Vijaya Bank passbook, photos, land records etc to assert that she is the real daughter of Venkataramana. The three also said they are ready for DNA test to prove their identities. Manjunath also said he and his sisters are not interested in property standing in the name of his father.
Venkataramana got emotional and declared these children as his own. He said he will go to Kalghatgi with them and live there, and that he would be visiting Keni often to meet his elder son.
Venkataramana said that he would be happy if the person who posed as his real son all these days is identified.
In the meanwhile, the other person, who lived with Venkataramana as his son, Manjunath, said that he is busy on fishing journey on boat and that as soon as he returns, he would approach the court for DNA test to prove his genuineness. He felt that the people claiming themselves as his father's children must have been led by some ulterior motive.
Manjunath from Kalaghatgi said that he is not demanding for ousting his namesake who has all these days claimed himself to be his father's genuine son, Manjunath. He has prepared to take away his father to Kalaghatgi by Tuesday.
Husbands of his sister, Hanumanthappa, Lakshappa, and Manjunath's wife Noorjan were present.
