Mangaluru, Oct 8: Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS) celebrated its 76th anniversary at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday, October 6.
Fr Onil D’Souza, director of St Antony Ashram Jeppu, was the chief guest of the celebration. Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza, president of Konkani Natak Sabha presided over the programme. For their contribution towards the Konkani stage, senior drama artistes Joseph Pinto (Joe Pinto), Mabel Kent, and Arther D’Souza were felicitated by KNS.
Acknowledging the felicitation, Arther D’Souza thanked all his supporters who supported him in his journey of Art. He also thanked Konkani Natak Sabha for this felicitation. “It is my pleasure to receive the honour with Mable Kent and Joe Pinto. I am remembered at this time of excitement, the senior actors like Raymond Lobo and others who worked to the Konkani culture tireless,” he said.
In his speech, Fr Onil D’Souza congratulated the KNS and said “It is a land mark to celebrate KNS annual day, as this stage at Don Bosco hall have given birth to thousands of artists to the Konkani world. Konkani Natak is a communication between the communities from years together at this stage. When a drama staged it’s a big work of community service.”
Fr Paul Melwyn D’Souza said, "So many dedicated worker of Konkani strived hard in these 76 years to carry the flag of Konkani.”
Sunil Menezes, vice president, KNS, welcomed the gathering. Judith D’Souza, secretary, read out the annual report. Jerry Concessao, treasurer, rendered the vote of thanks and Floyd D'Mello compered the event.
Konkani Social drama ‘Novro’ written by late A T Lobo and directed by John M Permannur was played by Kala Kutam (Havyasi Kalakar), Mangaluru.
