Udupi, Oct 7: People often say unemployment is a major issue in India. But for those people, Sheena Naik Cherkady, a 70-year-old man, has set a very good example to show that nature and environment provides employment irrespective of your educational qualifications.
Sheena Naik was born in Cherkady village of Udupi taluk. He has vast experience in the field of agriculture. He has dedicated himself to this field since almost 50 years. People could witness tall coconut trees and also banana plants all across the acre of land which he owns. In the present generation, where farmers prefer inorganic manures, Naik still uses organic manure and his hard work has given him fruitful results.
Many say that Naik is crazy about agriculture. Naik grows vegetables not only on his land but also in landlord’s land. His enthusiasm is always appreciated by the villagers. He grows vegetables in eight acres of uncultivated land of the village landlords. This year he has grown Bottle gourd, Ridge gourd and Ladies Finger in Mullugudde Shashidhar Shetty’s land and it has resulted in a profitable outcome. Twice in a week more than 2400 Bottle Gourds are sent to the market. Each Bottle gourd is sold to the vendor for 20 rupees and a greater margin of profit is earned.
For Sheena Naik’s efforts and love towards agriculture, the agricultural land has given him fruitful results. Government must recognize his efforts and interest and appreciate his woks as Naik is really a role model for all generations of people, especially youngsters. Kannaru Kamalaksha Hebbar, member of the panchayat said that he feels proud about Sheena Naik’s achievement. He said that Naik is protecting the environment as well as doing his social responsibilities. He also does dairy farming, poultry farming, grows pepper, coco and also collects honey. Harish Shetty Cherkady, a local villager says that Naik never expects results but works continuously and he has dedicated his entire life into it. Naik is really an inspiration to the people and Cherkady village is proud to have him.
Naik, an elderly man, who wears a pair of slippers and rides a bicycle, spends his time in agriculture. He has really become an inspiration to most of the graduates and unemployed students. Naik has shown that it is not one’s outlook that matters but the hard work and persistent effort that will help one reach the goal.
