Bengaluru, Oct 7: It seems the Uber drivers will never stay clear of issues. In one more incident that took place in the city on Thursday, an Uber driver assaulted a passenger who was travelling to Kempegowda International Airport as he did not pay the fare in advance.
According to the complaint filed by Aneek Roy (23), victim of the incident, who is employed in a software firm in Whitefield and resident of Mahaveer Tuskan apartment in Hoodi, was to reach the airport on the evening of October 3 and booked an Uber cab. The driver Harish K S asked Aneek to pay the fare as soon as he loaded the luggage in the car. Aneek refused to pay the amount on UberGo fare, in advance, as pooling will be cheaper.
Aneek told the driver that he will pay the fare only for UberPool under which the booking was done by him. When driver Harish asked Aneek to cancel the ride, Aneek questioned him as to why he accepted the ride initially. An argument ensued between Aneek and driver Harish and Aneek told the driver that he will take this issue up with the authorities in Uber.
Driver Harish threw the luggage of passenger Aneek Roy after cancelling his ride. When his rude behaviour was questioned by Aneek, the driver started kicking and punching. A nearby shopkeeper came to the rescue of Aneek, who was bleeding from his nose. Aneek booked some other cab to the airport as he was getting late.
Aneek was not allowed to board the aircraft as he was bleeding. He was given first aid in the airport and later taken to Manipal Hospital on Airport Road in the city, where the doctors told him that the bone of his nose is broken and dislocated. So he filed a police complaint the next day morning.
The Mahadevapura police, who registered the case are on the lookout for the culprit driver Harish.
Uber has said that the driver's partnership with Uber is ended and they will help the police in their investigation by providing all the details of the erring driver.
