Kundapur, Oct 6: A leopard, which was causing panic among the locals residing in Thekkatte near here, was caught in the cage that was kept by the forest department.
This leopard was seen frequently in the acacia and mango tree orchard that is situated adjacent to the Malady Higher Primary School under Thekkatte gram panchayat limits. The villagers, who were scared, had appealed to the forest department to catch the same.
The forest department personnel kept a cage near the school a month ago and were waiting for the leopard to visit the area. Accordingly, at around 10 am on Sunday, October 6, the male leopard, which about 10 years of age, got stuck in the cage. Last year also one leopard was caught in the same locality by by the forest department by keeping a trap.
So far five leopards have been caught in this locality.
