Bengaluru, Oct 6: Verbal arguments between the ruling BJP and opposition parties in the state have started again with respect to the interim relief of Rs 1,200 crore given by the union government. While the ruling BJP has welcomed the union government's grant, opposition parties are of the opinion that this is not at all enough.
The opposition parties, who were criticizing the ruling BJP so far for not getting even a rupee of grant from the center, are now accusing of minuscule grant for the state by the union government. The opposition parties are saying that this amount of Rs 1,200 crore was released as eyewash because of the severe protests that were being held in the state for not releasing the flood relief funds even after two months of the deluge.
On the contrary, the BJP state leaders are saying that the union government has reciprocated to the needs of the deluge victims by announcing the interim relief of Rs 1,200 crore and more funds will be allotted in coming days.
The opposition leaders are of the opinion that the state government had submitted a report of Rs 38,000 crore for activities related to rebuild the lives of people, who were severely affected by the deluge and a minimum of Rs 5,000 crore should have been declared as interim relief and Rs 10,000 crore should have been given after that.
Union minister Suresh Angadi said that the union government has not discriminated against the state of Karnataka. Modi and Amit Shah themselves are pleased with the steps taken by the state BJP government in providing relief to the flood victims. Only certain people are politicizing the issue without any reason, he added.
Former minister Sathish Jarkiholi said that Rs 1,200 crore released by the central government is not enough to meet the needs of even 10% of the deluge victims.
