Hubballi, Oct 6: Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had to face the protests at the city airport on Saturday, October 5.
Women activists of Congress held protest in front of the airport accusing the central government of failing completely in giving flood relief funds to the state, even after two months of the deluge. The protesters tried to gherao the minister.
Slogans were hurled against the union government, Prime Minister and finance minister. Police took the protesters into custody and released them later.
The protesters complained that "The central government is deliberately delaying the release of funds. The interim relief of Rs 1,200 crore is not at all enough. The central government is showing negligence in rebuilding the lives of the deluge victims. Nirmala Sitharaman, who is elected to the Rajya Sabha from the state, has no concern for the flood victims."
