Kasargod, Oct 6: The dead bodies of a woman and her daughter were found in a pond near their house. It is suspected that both of them killed themselves.

Shantha G Rao (70), wife of retired teacher Gopalkrishna Rao, a resident of Manya Meginadka near Neerchalu in the district and her daughter Mallika Rao (50) are the ones, whose dead bodies were found in the pond near their house on Saturday, October 5. It is suspected from the letter, that they have written and kept in the house, that they committed suicide.

The police have informed that the letter written by Shantha Rao says, "Daughter is unwell. I and daughter are going."

Gopalkrishna Rao and his other children had gone to the Navaratri Utsav on the night of Friday, October 4 that is taking place at Kollangana. They returned home at around 1 am. During that time Shantha and Mallika were sleeping in one room. Gopalkrishna and other members of the family went to their respective rooms in the house and drifted into sleep. When the family members got up on the morning of Saturday, both Mallika and Shantha were missing. When they started searching for them, their footwear was found at around 100 meters from the house near the pond. The fire service personnel were informed suspecting that they might have jumped into the pond.

The fire service personnel, who responded to the emergency call of the family, brought both the dead bodies from the pond with the help of the locals.

May their soul rest in peace. Its so sad people just don't understand the value of a life. Suicide isn't really the answer to one's sufferings. Everyone at some point of time in life goes through ups and downs, but fighting through it is real victory.

I think we have a distorted mindset that the only way-out is suicide.
We need to have too many community centers to guide people with lost hopes.
