New York: APNA Elects Dr Dinker Rai as President

New York, Jul 23: Aloysians and Partners in North America (APNA) executive committee (AEC) was reconstituted with Dr  Dinker Rai, a renowned heart surgeon assuming the office of the president of AEC, in addition to continuing as the vice chairman of APNA Board of Trustees. The other members of the AEC are Dr Marian Kamath, vice president - membership, Victor Pais, vice president for development, Ashok Mathias, treasurer and Tony D’Silva, secretary.  Joe Gonsalves, a veteran Aloysian, is the vice president for communications. 

At the fourth general body meeting of APNA held on Saturday, July 11 at 600 New Bridge Road, East Meadow, NY, the chairman of APNA, Fr Ozzie Mascarenhas, Kellstadt professor of marketing and ethics of University of Detroit Mercy, Detroit, Michigan, said, “while the current recession is the second worst in America, the country has always come out of such challenging situations. Recession is a mindset and we should move with passion and a creative vision in pursuing our goals.”

APNA Board of Trustees was also reconstituted at this annual general body meeting and Jayaram Bhat, San Francisco, Arthur Shenoi, Los Angeles, Dr Neria Hebbar, Tampa, Florida and Dr  Brian Martis, Detroit, Michigan were  invited to join the Board of Trustees and help further the cause of APNA.

APNA (www.apnanet.org) is a foundation established in the USA with the twin objectives of helping St Aloysius College, Mangalore, in its growth and expansion and building a strong network of Aloysian alumni and friends and well-wishers of the college in North America. APNA is also associated with APIF – Aloysian Partners International Federation that is focussing on building a worldwide network of Aloysian alumni organizations.

    It is good to see that APNA (Aloysian Foundation in North America) making a headway in U.S.A. This venture which was started in a small way in Detroit has made rapid strides with persons like Prem Watsa and Victor Pais pooling in their ideas and support in a tangible manner. Victor has gone a step ahead and founded API (aloysian Partners International). The mustard seed which was planted four years ago has now grown in a sapling and it is for us old students of SAC to nurture this body and ensure that this sapling grows into a mighty tree for the future generations to reap the benefits. St. Aloysius which has moved into Beeri has started its second project to ensure that our youth get the best possible benefits. This project will cost the Exchequer over fifty crores of rupees and SAC depend on the generosity of friends all over the world to ensure that this dream comes true. It was my pleasure to be present at the meeting in U.S.A. at which The Chairman Rev. Dr. Oswald Mascarenahs proposed that Dr. Dinker Rai the well known Vascular surgeon takes the responsibility of being a President. Dr. Dinker with his years of experience, fund of knowledge and contacts should be able to take APNA to greater heights. Joe Gonsalves
