Goa govt installs GPS in bus to prevent truancy

Daijiworld Media Network - Panaji (SHP)

Panaji, Oct 1: To track the movement and number of trips each bus makes, govt of Goa is considering to fit GPS on them. One of the transport officers stated that a GPS was mandatory as per a central amendment which took a course after the Nirbhaya case.

The GPS would also serve as a security measure for the passengers. This step is taken as truancy is observed among most of the bus drivers.

"All stage carriages benefit from the state fuel subsidy, so we do not know if they are operating all the trips that they are scheduled to operate under the permit or whether they are fulfilling the obligation of maximum operation of 27 days in a month,” the official said.

A department will be put in place which will have a control room to regulate and put a stop on truant drivers.
