Panaji, Sep 21 (IANS): After failed attempts at disposing off a seven-metre whale's carcass in South Goa's Bimbvel beach, the Goa government is now coordinating with the Indian Navy for assistance in disposing off the rotting carcass, according to an official statement issued on Saturday.
The Indian Navy, according to the statement issued by the naval base in Goa, INS Hansa has assured assistance to the state government in disposing off the carcass at Bimbvel beach, which is a restricted area as it is located in close proximity to the base.
"The states agencies are deliberating on cutting the carcass into smaller pieces and attempting burial using local boats. The Collector South Goa has called for an urgent meeting on Monday to deal with the issue. Goa Naval Area and INS Hansa remain committed to provide their full cooperation in the matter," the statement said.
"INS Hansa, despite nil expertise in handling such a contingency, attempted disposal of the seven meter long carcass weighing about 1000 kgs, on 15 and 20 September, but was not successful," the statement said.
