Mumbai, Sep 20: Cyprian Albuquerque (71) nicknamed Cypri Sampige, recipient of ‘Divo Sahitya Puraskar 2005’ from Konkani weekly ‘Divo’ newspaper published from Mumbai passed away at his residence ‘Orlem’ Malad west on Thursday evening September 19 after a brief illness.
He was the owner of ‘Mangaluru Store’ during his several years' stay in Kuwait and had become popular selling Kannada, Konkani, Tulu newspapers, CDs and cassettes there.
He later came down to Mumbai and was creative as an author and poet in Maharashtra Konkan Association, Konkani Bhasha Mandal Maharashtra and several such groups and associations. Besides collecting advertisements for Kannada and Konkani newspapers, he was active in distribution of newspapers.
He hailed from Sampige, Moodbidri, Dakshina Kannada district and has left behind his wife, two sons, a daughter and a large number of friends and relatives.
