Puttur, Jul 15: The Bangalore-Mangalore train was withheld at Yedakumeri in the Western Ghat section of the railway line, in the early hours on Wednesday July 15, after the landslides posed grave danger to the movement of the train.
Rocks and soil got heaped on the railway tracks in Yedakumeri after the landslide that occurred on Tuesday July 14 night. As a result, passengers got stranded in Yedakumeri for several hours. Recent reports reaching here said that train finally continued its journey by Wednesday afternoon after the track was cleared.
The passengers, who were to attend urgent works or attend functions in the city, were trying to seek alternative transport arrangements to reach their venues. It is hard to get any transport in Yedakumeri, frustrating their efforts in the bargain. Non-availability of food has complicated the problems.
The railway stretch passing through Yedakumeri has always been in news owing to landslides. It was a known fact that the commencement of Bangalore-Mangalore train had been delayed owing to the safety questions on this route. However, the commuters also agree that passing through Yedakumeri on train is a fascinating experience owing to the lush green surroundings, which comprise of both high hills and deep valleys, giving a lifetime experience to them.
