Panaji, Sep 20: The Corporation of City of Panaji (CCP) is planning to implement pay-parking for four-wheelers by June 18. Atmaram Borkar Road, the stretch from Gaspar Dias to Sharada Mandir, around Garcia de Orta municipal garden and the stretch from Down The Road pub till the rear side of the old Secretariat will be getting pay parking facility by June 18.
The CCP is planning to tender a contract soon for the pay parking services for 521 four-wheeler parking spaces in the city. However, two-wheelers will not come under the pay parking system, said the officials from CCP.
The base rate for the tender is yet to be decided. CCP mayor Uday Madkaikar said that the base rate will be decided at the standing committee meeting on Monday. “Two teams have been put in place to tow vehicles, especially those that double park and block the road in the vicinity of the casino entrances. The two teams of four corporation staff will work together with the traffic police, who will fine perpetrators. This will start next week which is aimed at reducing congestion on the road,” CCP mayor said, as per TOI report.
