People of Pakistan treat all Indians as relatives: Sharad Pawar

Mumbai, Sep 15 (IANS): In potentially controversial statements, Nationalist Congress Party supremo Sharad Pawar has lavished praises on the people of Pakistan and alleged that the ruling BJP is spreading "misinformation".

"People here say Pakistanis are facing injustice and are unhappy but that is far from the truth. Such comments are being made only for political gains, without realising the actual situation in Pakistan," Pawar said at a meeting of minority community members at the party office on Saturday evening.

Justifying his contentions, the former Defence Minister pointed out that he had visited Pakistan several times and was always accorded warm hospitality.

"Pakistanis are of the belief that even if they can't travel to India to meet their relatives, they treat all Indians as their relatives," Pawar said.

He added that attempts are being made by the ruling dispensation to divide people in the name of Pakistan and Islam, minorities are being attacked, but no action is taken against the accused.

Pawar called upon the Muslim community in India to come forward and counter these goings-on in the country since progress cannot be achieved without amity and brotherhood among all communities.

The comments came even as political and diplomatic relations between the two nations are at a new low after the abrogation of the Constitution's Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

Political observers say that Pawar's surprising comments - as the countdown to Maharashtra Assembly elections gets underway - may spark a political furore, both with its ally Congress and the ruling BJP-Shiv Sena combined.

However, there have been no reactions to Pawar's statement so far.

What is said is the personal experience of each one. As part of my employment I visited Pakistan at least 3 times and I fully endorse the opinion expressed. People of both sides have absolutely no enmity or bad feelings. It is politics and personal gain of some politicians which is distancing the human relationship.

Right on Mr.Pawar. The political demonization of Pakistan and spreading that internationally to destroy credibility for political and diplomatic gains in my mind is evil and soft terror.

In todays instant communication age it spreads like cancer in the veins of misinformed.
I have no hesitation to endorse mr pawers statement about Pakistan people.

The current government vendetta against Pakistan and internal political figures in the opposition clearly a unwarranted. Its done with hate flowing from the current government to gain and keep mileage in its misinformed supporters who bogey with the mesmerizing leaders without knowing the ground realities.

The terrorism currently described coming from Pakistan to some extent is a direct result of the relationship India has its neighbour. The two countries neighbouring each other can prosper and can be economic kingdoms of South Asia given the right environment .

To add fuel to the fire the so called religious angle has been played well to garner support politically in this evil facade. Just before the elections the attack on Pakistan enthralled the supporters and the result of the elections was a done deal.

There is so much hate residing in the supporters and the comments coming out on news paper articles displays the wrath of this evil.

The current J&K situation has added again added fuel to the fire. The dispute is mutual and should have been understood.

Pakistan should be given some respect if India wants respect and relationship.

Nothing wrong with Pawar's statement. There is no politics involved in his remarks. It's purely the feelings of innocent people on both sides of the border. It's the same sentiment of ordinary people world over. It's the politicians who play dirty at the cost of innocent people's lives.
