Mangaluru Sep 12: ‘We Are United’ in association with ‘Cyber Safe Girl’, is all set to launch E-Swachh Bharat, a first of its kind programme for e-waste management on October 2. The objective of this initiative is to create awareness about e-waste and encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle e-waste as part of Swachh Bharat initiative, said professor, Sahyadri College of Engineering and Management, Dr Ananth Prabhu G.
Addressing media here on Thursday, September 12, Dr Ananth Prabhu G said, "As part of the programme, we will visit 200 apartments and display posters on collection of e-waste on the notice boards. The dates when e-waste collectors will visit the apartment complexes will be clearly mentioned. There is a need to recycle e-waste in a responsible manner. A certificate of appreciation will be awarded to the highest e-waste donors,”
“The organisation also aims to create awareness regarding various regulations associated with e-waste. The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change is primarily responsible for regulations regarding electronic waste. Additionally, the Central Pollution Control Board and State Pollution Control Board guidelines on proper management of e-waste, rules set forth by the MoEFCC which includes waste management and handling rules 2011, e-waste management rules 2016 and amendment to the e-waste management rules 2018 will be informed to people," Prabhu said.
“We will also appeal on segregating e-waste along with wet waste and dry waste. Awareness programmes will be conducted throughout the year on collecting e-waste. The collected e-waste will be sent to Hyderabad for recycling purposes," he added.
President of ‘We Are United’ Afsar Razaq, trustee of Vikas Education Trust J Koragappa and businessman Rakshith Shetty were present.
