Mangaluru, Sep 12: Preliminary rounds of Konkani poetry reciting competition for Mangaluru region was organised by Kavita Trust recently at Don Bosco Hall here in association with Konkani Natak Sabha (KNS).
Three from the children category and two from the youth category were selected for the All India Finals to be held on January 11 and 12, 2020 in Margao, Goa on the occasion of Kavita Fest.
The competitions were inaugurated by Melvyn Rodrigues, founder trustee, Kavita Trust, Andrew L D’Cunha, treasurer, Judith D’Souza, secretary KNS, Floyd D’Mello, joint secretary, Jerry Concessao, treasurer and Raymond D’Cunha, convener by lighting the lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, Andrew L D’Cunha said, "It is heartening to see children and youngsters taking interest in learning poetry. It is definitely the best form of literature. A decision to participate in such competitions is what sets the contestants apart from others. It indicates that their thinking process is different," he said. The experience they gain from such competitions is not temporary but everlasting, he added, citing his own experiences in the poetry world.
William Pais, Averyl Rodrigues, Trustees and Venkatesh Nayak, were the judges of the competitions.
Alveena Monteiro, Paldane, Gianna D’Mello, Cascia and Christel D’Souza, Milagres were selected for the finals of VI Nelson and Lavina Rodricks - Cha. Fra. D’Costa Memorial All India Konakni poetry competition for children. Christel Lobo, Urwa, Delreeda D’Souza, Cascia, Sanjana Mathias, Kulshekar and Arvin D’Cunha, Kulshekar were selected as reserves for the finals.
Three out of 8 youngsters bagged prizes from Konkani Natak Sabha in the 9th Rohan and Laveeta Monteiro poetry competition for youth. Austin Johana D’Cunha, Bejai and Shwetha Pai M, Canara College were selected for the finals. Anisha Michelle Sequeira, Bendur and Priya Jyothi Pinto, Milagres were chosen as reserves.
On same occasion, competition was held in the above 30 years category. Patcy Monteiro, Paldane secured first prize, Irene Mendonca, Cascia won second and Minora Rosy Noronha, Cascia won third prize from Konkani Natak Sabha.
