Mangaluru Sep 9: A twitter campaign 'Jai Tulunad' is launched to include Tulu language in the eighth schedule of the Indian Constitution. The eighth schedule lists the official languages of the Republic of India.
The campaign has already attracted over 1 lac tweets demanding the national recognition of the language. Former minister, Pramod Madhwaraj, supported this campaign with a series of tweets.
He also tweeted on the need of forming a whatsapp group to get likeminded people together and suggested the campaigners to consult Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Veerendra Heggade.
Tuluvas are joining hands under the fundamental rights of the Constitution which mention that every citizen has the right to protect their language, culture and script. The community is now questioning the government over the provision of laying down a constitutional framework for Tulu language.
The campaign has received immense support from the Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, who has assured to provide the language with its rightful place in the constitution. Along with MP Nalin, MLAs and sandalwood celebrities from the district have poured in their support.
The Jai Tulunad organisation which launched the campaign has been fighting for the recognition of Tulu language. One of the members of the organisation, Ashwath Tuluve, claimed that MLAs Vedayvyas Kamath and Raghupathi Bhat have asked them to submit a written letter over the matter. Ashwath also stated that the MLAs will raise the issue in the legislative assembly.
The campaign made a conscious effort to tag prominent leaders to receive attention. People who are tweeting in support of the campaign are tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, home minister Amit Shah, and chief ministers of Karnataka and Kerala.
