Kundapur, Sep 9: Kanaka Kulalti (62), wife of Mahabala Kulal from Kattina Buda in Heskuttur village in the taluk has not been seen since since September 8. There is a strong suspicion that she would have drowned. An intensive search for her has been launched.
Kanaka had gone out late night on Saturday from her home for relieving herself. There was no electricity supply in the area then. There is suspicion that she would have slipped and fallen into a drain that passes near her home that was in full flow. Although the people living in the neighbourhood joined hands with the family members in searching for her, their efforts went in vain. Thereafter, expert divers and firemen tried their best to locate the lady inside Heskuttur rivulet into which the water from the said drain pours into. However, because of heavy water inflow, their efforts failed.
District superintendent of police Nisha James, Kundapur tahsildar Tippeswarmy, rural police station house officer Sridhar Nayak, Kota station house officer Nityananda Gowda and others visited the residence of the woman and promised all help.
