Mangaluru: Bus driver uses mobile phone when driving - Pays Rs 5,000 fine

Mangaluru, Sep 9: The traffic police here, after finding that the driver of a private bus was talking over mobile phone when driving, imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. The incident happened at Jokatte Cross here.

Police personnel of the city (north) traffic police station were engaged in checking of vehicles near Jokatte Cross. At around 7 pm on Saturday, they saw that the driver of a private vehicle which came that way was conversing on his mobile phone. The police stopped the bus and collected hefty fine as above.

The latest changes brought to the Motor Vehicles Act came into force in the city from Saturday, September 7 onward.

    Buses in Mangalore do not have wheels that have wings, they think they can fly on road.. I welcome this decision.. Bangalore should collect highest fine because forget about 2 wheeler even bus are on pedestrian footpath because they do not like to adhere to traffic signals or rules.. , But saying this even government should full fill basic necessities.... where a traffic signals? where are pedestrian road? Do we have zebra crossing where were necessary? No not even in front of school / colleges, hospitals,.... There are no barricades, potholes, manholes everywhere, junctions like Kavoor were 4 roads meet there is no signal... , Asking for a cycle path in India is out of question so m putting it aside... What about flyover is not planned accurately.. so you politicians also do ur duty..

    The implementation of new transport Act in a hurry is not good. Fine for everything to make the citizens follow the rules is OK. But without improving the road condition like pot hole less roads for two wheeler riders, barricades at suitable places, Zebra crossing violations needs review. Who is responsible for accidents due to bad road conditions ? If vehicles can be fined for signal jumping why not penalize citizens who jump signals at Zebra crossings ? Bicycle fellow, Are they also not supposed to follow traffic rules ?
    Finally what mechanism govt kept in place to check on traffic police who can easily switch over or convert or turn official fine amount to bribe with discount to offender ??

    High fine has been imposed to stop accidents to the maximum extent. But here in Bengaluru in most cases the Trafic Police just stand and watch as dumb spectators.
    Why there is No Penalty for such Officers?????
    Public should click such photos and catch them.

    There is a very big dig right side of Canara Jewellers. Vehicles coming from hapankatta will not notice this pit. So many days are over not step taken to fill it. Why the concrete road digged for that extent.Two whellers face risky moments.

    1.Vehicles parked at the cross road entrance will be very dangerous. The vehicle coming from lane or inside road will not be able to notice the vehicle coming in the main road.

    2. Parked vehicle moves suddenly backwards without signal.

    3. People open the car door suddenly on the road side where the vehicles running. So many accidents took place.

    I really don't understand the logic here.
    Or I thin he was calling his friend to tel road is pathetic?
    One might break signal because road is so pathetic that he can't wait other side
    People overload autos because road cannot accommodate more people
    Overspeeding on road because peple don't want to spend time on pathetic road
    Helmet is proportional to the road quality. Road is pathetic that helmet makes it worse

    Is this what yo are saying. Man, more than govt earning from the fines,such rules will create a scare in society and everyone will be mindful while driving.

    I completely agree, roads are not good. When roads are not good why do you make others life worse by taking on phone

    Why is that no one commenting about drives changing lanes and cutting you without using indicators . How difficult is it to flick a switch? Why is there no penalty for this mistake causing inconvenience to drivers who follow traffic rules . When will the POLICE / RTO go to the driving schools and check how educated these so called driving instructors are and how is the RTO giving license without testing common sense.

    Fine with a ban for 1 should be the rule for bus drivers. Police also should take their blood test, as they can also be under the influence of Alchohol or drugs.
    Added to this is also the poor quality of roads in DK. Both Contractor and the Govt. official who approve these road works should be punichsed for providing substandard work.

    Dear Government,

    Why can't you follow below points before making such huge penalty ?

    1. Proper safer road
    2. Separate Lanes for heavy vehicles
    3. Proper signal lights
    4. Special Speed reducer signs instead of barricade on the road
    5. Safety Exit line to service road
    6. Pedestrian Crossing Bridges and underground where in express highway
    7. Safety barricade both side of the road where hill area
    8. Pedestrian walkway .
    9. Stop road tax if you are collecting toll charges , why we should pay both ?

    Please drop viewers opinions on comments section.
    If government has succeeded these points in all our roads, then you are liable to penalize.

    I still see people driving and riding on the opposite direction.
    THOKOTTU to DERALAKATTE is one area where police can collect lakhs of fine in a day where people ride recklessly without license, without helmet, triple riding, talking on the phone.
    Even young DOCTORS and other HOSPITAL STAFFS ride bikes without helmet, most of them are from KERALA.

    TRAFFIC POLICE please take a note and install cameras and bring these people under one law.
    Please let me know of any traffic police number where I can click photos and WhatsApp the image to help curb the traffic violation further.

    few days back nitin gadkari transport minister was riding bike to RSS head quater without helmet how much he has been fined ???

    rules made by elected representatives however they enjoy all freedom no fine no rules for them.

    Fines seems to be high but otherwise people behavior cannot be controlled...

    Why isnt there any checking in areas like derlakatte.. 90% of the 2 wheeler riders i see don't wear a helmet. and plenty of triple riders ..... and half of them are KL 14 registered. Does the law of land not apply here ?
