Eminent lawyer , former union minister Ram Jethmalani passes away

New Delhi, Sep 8: Former Union law minister and veteran lawyer Ram Jethmalani passed away early on Sunday morning. Jethmalani had been under medical supervision for past two weeks.

He was 95. He is survived by his son lawyer Mahesh Jethmalani, and a daughter.

Born in Sikharpur of Sindh province on September 14, 1923, Ram Boolchand Jethmalani became a lawyer at the young age of 18. He had argued numerous landmark cases in Supreme Court, HCs and trial courts.

His high-profile cases include defence of Rajiv Gandhi's killer in Madras high court in 2011, Harshad Mehta and Ketan Parekh in stock market scams, the death sentence to Afzal Guru and also represented Manu Sharma in the Jessica Lall murder case.

    Sri Ramjethmalani became an Indian Icon, during Indira Gandhi's emergency rule in India. He opposed Indira Gandhi's ill intentions to be in Soviet Union's bloc along with other well known national political leaders, Indira had jailed him during emergency. He won Parliament election from Bombay (Mumbai) and was Attorney General of India in Janata party government in 1977.

    He was an distinguished criminal and constitutional lawyer of fame. Served India as a Statesman, Parliamentarian, Humanitarian and distinguished Lawyer.

    He has defended the ACCUSED . But legally they are innocent till its proven guilty by Police & Public Prosecutor. Bcoz of this its foolish to blame the defense Lawyer like Ram Jetmalani.

    Don't forget that if No Lawyer is available to defendant , then Hon Court will provide the Lawyer. In that Court appointed Defense Lawyer is Culprit...???

    From a philosophical angle.....
    Heard stories that this great legal luminary used to charge Rs 1 lakh per
    Minute as his fees ...Every minute of his life was therefore precious and valuable.He knew the value of TIME.
    That is what....Many now know the value of time.
    What they might not know is that TIME and TIDE wait for none.

    This is the truth and you have rightly said.

    Apart from only some good work, he used his knowledge to defend and and acquit murderers and rapists (specially children of politicians and businessmen) though the mother of victim were screening & crying in the court. Their cry did not bother him as he was more interested in receiving their ill gotten / black money.
