Bengaluru, Sep 7: It is learnt that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials have hastened investigation into phone tapping complaint. It is said that during the coalition regime in the state, phones of people's representatives and officials were tapped with the tacit intention of keeping an eye on their activities.
The CBI sleuths have collected data from August 1, 2018 to August 8, 2019 from the technical division at Adugodi here. They have also sorted this information to find how many of these phones were tapped and which are the ones which were tapped without prior permission. It is said that during the scrutiny, the officials found that those who tapped the phones had copied the information to audio pen drives. It has come to light that these things were done at the instance of the past city police commissioner here.
The CBI officers have also collected relevant information from some inspectors and assistant commissioners of police. The team, which has pooled information, is in the process of questioning three police inspectors, who are said to have played a role in phone tapping. They reportedly confessed that they had engaged themselves in phone tapping activities under the instructions of the police commissioner.
CBI officials, it is said, are preparing to question the former city police commissioner Alok Kumar, who has been facing the allegation of leaking recorded conversation of the current city police commissioner to sully his image. Sources say that Kumar has been asked to be personally present before the CBI officials for questioning.
A few personnel of the police commissioner's office are also likely to be grilled relating to handing over phone tapping audio to the then city police commissioner by some inspectors.
