Panaji, Sep 6: Six months after being booked for raping a minor girl in Goa, Hyderabad-based man surrendered before Margao Police on Thursday, September 5, a senior police official said.
Superintendent of Police (South) Arvind Gawas told reporters that Margao police arrested 22-year-old Mohammad Ishaq who surrendered before them, after almost six months of evading arrest.
“The man has been booked under section 376 of IPC, section 8 of Goa Children’s Act and Section 4 of POCSO Act for repeatedly raping the minor girl for over two years,” he said.
Gawas said as per the complaint filed by mother of the victim on May 24, the accused had sexually abused her on several times in different places between May, 2017 to January, 2019.
The mother had said that the accused was following her daughter while she went for tuitions and also clicked her nude pictures.
The complaint mentions that the accused would instill fear in the mind of the girl to make her pictures public and induced her to part with golden ornaments.
Gawas said that the accused was absconding and several times police visited his native at Hyderabad but he was not traceable.
On Thursday, he surrendered before Margao Police, after which he was placed under arrest.
