Mangaluru, Sep 5: Dr Sushanth Rai Bellipady, has been elected as the president of the Karnataka Poultry Farmers and Breeders Association (KPFBA) for the term 2019-2021 at the association’s annual general body meeting held in Bengaluru.
The other office bearers are S N Raghunath (Vice President), Dr Anjan Goswami (General Secretary) Dr H R Halambi (Treasurer) and Dr Arshan Saheed, Vincent Cutinha, Dr Bhoopathi, Prasanna and Nagendra Pasuparthy (Managing Committee Members) and Inayath Ulla Khan (Executive Secretary).
About Dr Sushanth Rai, president – KPFBA and managing partner – Raison Nutrition
Dr Rai is a veterinary graduate from Veterinary College, Bengaluru and University Veterinary, Animal and Fisheries Science’s Bidar. He has been serving the poultry industry for more two decades and has trained several farmers to establish farms for better living through continuous technical support and management.
‘Poultry Sector to be revitalised’
The newly-elected president of the Karnataka Poultry Farmer’s and Breeder’s Association (KPFBA) Dr Shushanth Rai has outlined a roadmap for the poultry sector in Karnataka wherein emphasis would be laid on putting in place best practices among members and non-members to drive poultry consumption in the country.
Dr Sushanth Rai said, “This per capita consumption in India is 61 eggs and 3.9 kg chicken meat, while the National Institute of Nutrition has recommended 180 eggs and 11 Kg meat for healthy and nutritious food habits.” The KPFBA would assiduously work towards improving the consumption pattern in the country by creating awareness campaigns while improving quality production.”
Dr Sushan Rai further said, “The poultry sector in the country was both organized and unorganized and that there were many challenges. The association would have interaction with all to ensure that the sector expands in a healthy manner. Presently, the sector was facing challenges on getting quality feed in the market and the shortfall of maize had impacted production. The association would continue to urge the government to increase the import of feed grade maize, even while seeking support for infrastructure development. The KPFBA would take up the matter with relevant authorities such that constant interaction will make them aware of the importance of poultry as healthy nutrition and the need to support the sector. On its part, the KPFBA would be organizing series of training sessions, workshops, technical and management seminars marketing and promotional events to ensure that the poultry sector in the country moves to the next level. The KPFBA will be inviting subject experts from within the country and outside such that dissemination of knowledge will remain a continuous breeders are keen on modernizing, bringing in new practices etc in their farms.”

Karnataka Poultry Farmers & Breeders Association (KPFBA) is an apex body, representing Poultry Farmers and Breeders of Karnataka, India. It was established in 1991 to promote the development of poultry breeding and farming Karnataka, where the occupation is a major activity. The association is registered under the Karnataka Societies Act 1961, u/s 12 A (a) 80G of the Income-tax Act 1961. KPFBA aims at providing facilities for exchange of information and opinion of interest to poultry breeding farms and poultry farmers.
