Udupi, Jul 4: B G Achar, who had hitherto been heading Manipal police station, has been transferred to the excise enforcement and lottery prohibition department, Mangalore. H D Kulkarni, transferred in his place, took over charge of the police station on Friday July 3.
It may be recalled that B G Achar, who was earlier functioning as the inspector of Manipal police station, had been transferred to Mysore district last year. He had approached Karnataka Administrative Tribunal against this transfer, contending that he had not completed the stipulated three year service at the transferee place as he was transferred within 15 months from there. He had also alleged that this transfer had been affected at the behest of local MLA Raghupati Bhat, who had an axe to grind against the former, because of his refusal to ill-treat Atul Rao while in custody, relating to the disappearance and death of Bhat's wife, Padmapriya.
After Kulkari, posted to Manipal earlier, approached KAT to quash its orders to restore Achar at Manipal, the KAT insisted on its earlier order to be acted upon. Accordingly, B G Achar had reported at Manipal on March 18 this year.
