Bantwal: Five member gang planning to loot vehicle drivers arrested

Bantwal, Sep 4: ASI and personnel of Bantwal rural police station arrested five people at 1.30 am of Wednesday, September 4, who were planning to extort money from truck drivers and other commuters passing by the road at Manchi Katte of Manchi village of the taluk.

The arrested are identified as Ummer Farookh alias Chenna Farookh (26), a resident of Goltamajalu village of Bantwal taluk, Mohammed Aboobacker (21), a resident of Mangilapadavu of Bantwal taluk, Rameez alias Mohammed Rameez (22), a resident of Goltamajalu village of Bantwal taluk, Abdul Khader (40), a resident of Manchi village of Bantwal taluk and Khaleel alias Ibrahim Khaleel (22), hailing from Baltila village of Bantwal taluk, presently residing at Nandavara Kote Mane, Sajipa Mooda village, Bantwal taluk.

The arrested people were waiting by the roadside in a suspicious manner at Manchikatte. On inquiry, the arrested accused said that they were waiting on the road side with the intention of looting drivers of trucks or other vehicles passing by. One person escaped during the operation. He is identified as Akbar, a resident of Suribail.

The police have confiscated the two motorcycles that were in the possession of the gang. When the cops checked the contents in the two bikes, they found one bent knife of hook shape made of iron, one knife like sickle that had wooden handle, one hacksaw type knife and Ganja moggu of two grams weight that was kept under the seat box of the Activa Honda vehicle.

A case under column 399, 402 IPC, 25 (1B) (b) Arms Act 20 (b) (ii) (A) NDPS Act is registered against the five arrested. Among them, a case related to murder attempt and arson is registered against Ummer Farookh alias Chenna Farookh and Khalil alias Ibrahim Khalil.

    Ummar Bhai, blame games are aside...these kind of acts let them to do near you n your family members live. Not to harm n loot innocent poor people. There are so many sources n ways to live with dignity not dacoity n robbery.

    Anyways just because of economic downturn somebody should resort to crimes. Even 2008 - 2009 witnessed worst crisis under ManMohan Singh....that doesnt mean youth of those time resorted to unfair means. Its upbringing and parental values that matter.
