Mangaluru, Sep 4: A case has been filed in Bajpe police station by a woman who has claimed that she has been facing dowry harassment since long at the hands of her husband and his family members. Arsia Kausar from Bajpe filed this complaint.
Kausar has stated that her husband Muhammed Mustaq, mother-in-law Noor Jahan, sister-in-law Miumtaz and Muneesa, as well as husband of her sister-in-law, Asif, have been repeatedly harassing her on this issue since long.
Arsia Kausar, daughter of Alimama form Kadike village, Haleangady in the taluk, had been married to Muhammed Mustaq from Bajpe on January 27, 2013. The groom's family had demanded and collected two lac rupees in cash apart from 85 sovereigns of gold ornaments at the time of the marriage in the form of dowry. Even after the marriage, the lady said, she continued to face persistent demand for bringing additional dowry from her husband and his family.
She said that at the time of his sister, Muneesa's marriage, Mustaq had sent her to her parental home and collected two lac rupees in the form of dowry. However, the dowry harassment did not end even thereafter, the complainant has claimed.
Bajpe police have registered case under section 504 of Indian Penal Code relating to intentional insult, 323 for mental harassment, 506 (threat to life), 34 (organized crime) and different provisions of anti-dowry law.
