Bantwal, Jul 3: The crime of a thief, who had stolen 11 sovereigns of gold ornaments from the home where he worked since the last 12 years, came into the open after about 18 months. Ramesh (23) from Darkas House, Kanyana village, working in the home of Divya Prabhu and Cyril D'Souza in Mucchirapadav, had stolen 11 sovereigns of gold from the home of Divya Prabhu on December 23, 2007 when she had been to the church.
After returning, Prabhu saw that a thief had entered her home from a small window on the backside and taken away gold ornaments kept in the almirah. The family members had so much faith in the innocence of Ramesh that they refused to doubt his integrity. After he took an oath in the presence of Kanathur Daivasthana about his innocence, the family totally trusted him.
After Ramesh was served with the gold auction notice from a cooperative bank in Vittal two days ago, Cyril D'Souza grew suspicious and alerted the policemen. When Ramesh paid the loan amount and got the gold ornaments released on Thursday July 2, he was caught. It came to light that he had pledged the ornaments he had stolen from the home of his master, at the cooperative society.
